Picture this: In a small 12x15 ft room in a crowded, noisy marketplace in New Delhi, India, a young man in his mid-twenties is working single-handedly seven days a week on one computer. That is how Wisitech (then christened Orient InfoSolutions) was founded way back in January 1999.

That young man was Partho Mondal, a printer-turned-web developer who founded Wisitech from scratch. Today Wisitech is a leading end-to-end web solutions provider with clients across the globe.

What Partho did not have is the vital initial capital required in any new business start-up. All he had was this rented room and a computer.

But the crucial asset he had was a vision that could spot the key areas of growth in the booming internet market. And the skills required to innovate and produce high quality web development, graphics and 3D modeling & animation work.

“It was the best of times. It was the worst of times” (Tale of Two Cities). The internet was booming and everyone who had some or even little knowledge of the web was jumping into the fray.

To survive in such a fledgling, fast changing market, it was vitally important to know exactly what would sell and how. Partho knew that to rise above the crowd, one had to provide high quality work at reasonable prices.

Wisitech’s first flagship venture Meghdutam.com was a website that published and promoted creative writing in English.

Thanks to smart positioning and good quality writing, Meghdutam.com became a much talked about website in literary circles and was even featured by BBC World television channel as one of the four Best Literary Sites In The World in the year 2000.

The year that followed was perhaps the worst in web history. As the dotcom bust dragged down with it thousands of dotcom ventures, some of them losing millions of dollars in investment, Meghdutam.com too faced a downslide.

Acute financial crunch and lack of a workable revenue-generating business model undid all the hard work that was put in making it one of the leading literary websites of the world.

Bitten but not shy, Partho realized that along with providing high quality work at reasonable prices, one needed to have a foolproof business model that would ensure high ROI (Return on Investment).

With his ability to spot the ‘greenfield’ areas that were slated to be the next ‘Big Thing’ on the web, Partho focused sharply on web development, online marketing, multimedia and e-learning solutions.

His entrepreneurial zeal and keen business acumen with over 18 years of varied experience in designing, coding, marketing and web marketing has propelled Wisitech from that small one-room-office start-up to a rapidly growing firm today.

Overcoming initial hurdles such as cash crunch and infrastructure bottlenecks, he positioned the company as an end-to-end web solutions provider – something that very few companies were doing.

Rather than focusing on only one kind of competency, such as designing or programming or marketing, Partho concentrated on developing each competency to become a crucial part of a wholesome solution package.

His mantra, “You are as good as your team”.

Today, backed by an energetic and determined team, and supported by a loyal client base with whom his relationship goes beyond just business, Partho is spearheading Wisitech with a laser-sharp focus on becoming “the best web solutions provider in the world”.

The lanky, bespectacled Deepak is our hands-on manager and trouble-shooter. He looks more like a scholar (he has proficiency in a broad spectrum of technologies and business) but he can have you in splits in no time.

Whether it is managing all of our clients’ projects starting from their execution, client deliveries and client relationships or chipping in to help a programmer crack a particularly problematic piece of code he might be breaking his head over, Deepak is one person who is there for everybody, all the time!

If Wisitech is today achieving milestones on timely execution and delivery & quality management, cost optimization, and professional team management, Deepak should take a large chunk of the credit. But does he? Naah… he is way too humble!

The “headmistress of Wisitech” as we fondly call her, Madhu is a strict disciplinarian to the core. But know her a little more and you will find an affectionate friend, counselor, guide to everyone in the organization who always has a disarming grin, pleasant words and a listening ear for everybody.

Armed with over 13 years of experience in Corporate Human Resource, Madhu is today deftly shaping Wisitech’s efficient work culture, optimally utilizing our chief and most valuable asset – our people.

Be it shaping the company’s HR strategy, organization design and development or spearheading corporate staffing or Training & Development as well as performance management, Madhu is our main think tank.

And yes, no major corporate decisions, policies or business planning processes are shaped without Madhu’s involvement. She ensures that our HR strategy is aligned with the strategic direction of the company.

Business development is Amitava’s forte and he likes to go at it with all cylinders firing. If you suddenly find yourself swept off in a rapid-fire “creative briefing” from Amitava, don’t get dazed. Amitava likes to have the projects off the block and hurtling ahead at rocket speed.

Generating revenue, ensuring project deliveries, forging key alliances, steering business development, building client relationships – all that is Amitava’s cup of tea.

Amitava is also involved, as a part of the Wisitech management team, in developing the business strategies and key business metrics. And he does manage to juggle all that, buzzing around busily!

A business journalist by profession, with over 14 years of media experience behind her, Antara forayed into web content writing about 3 years ago. Since then, she has marshaled all her writing and editing experience to give shape to Wisitech’s content development expertise.

Thanks to her wide experience of working in newspapers, she takes deadlines dead seriously and tries to make sure everyone in her team falls in line too.

Amitabha (fondly called “Boseji” by one and all) has 20 years of experience with Indian Air Force and also with the IT industry. Thanks to his defense background, Boseji can get things done on war footing.

An imposing presence with an endearing smile, Boseji manages the day-to-day operations and administrative functions (organization strategy and implementation, delivery and quality management, cost optimization and team management) of Wisitech with an iron hand.

If the office is running smoothly on well-oiled wheels, it’s because Boseji is tightening the nuts and bolts!

Fun-loving, vivacious Sonali is a no-nonsense person when it comes to work. Mentoring and motivating her team of creative designers, Sonali is a stickler for perfection with a sharp eye for detail. Sonali’s contribution in adding polish and finesse to Wisitech’s designs and creations has set precedents for everyone to follow.

Energetic and passionate about her work, Sonali loves to play with the colors till she gets the perfect combination. But if you want a design done in a tearing hurry, Sonali will have it ready in an hour flat! Does that mean a compromise on the quality? No way! Try and tell the difference if you can!

Santanu is one success story we at Wisitech love to show off!

He is one of the youngest Team Leaders with Wisitech and the interesting story lies in how he became one. He joined us more than three years ago as a Trainee - Web Marketing. Partho spotted his steely resolve to achieve targets and learn the ropes as fast as he possibly could and groomed him to take on wider responsibilities.

Today the studious, terribly shy Santanu has turned into a strapping, confident young man who leads his team from the front. He is our main link to several of our international clients (some actually insist on talking only to him!). Don’t get taken in by his boyish looks. He can teach you a vital thing or two about the latest SEO, PPC and other web marketing strategies in line with Web 2.0 trends any day!

Niyaz is one amiable fellow who gets on like the house on fire with everyone. With half his face hidden behind specs and the other half behind a beard, the jovial Niyaz wouldn’t come across as a leader full of aggression and drive at first glance.

But ask his team members and they will vouch for how he just loves to push others and himself to accelerate with full enthusiasm for completing a task. He likes to explore new solutions and his biggest contribution has been to hone and share his fantastic technical skills with his team members. Now that’s what you would call a team leader, no?

Sudipta’s role in Wisitech is like salt in curry. He is the Man Friday for all Quality Assurance responsibilities and for monitoring and improving the Quality Processes. Sudipta is one person everyone in Wisitech loves to bank upon for trouble-shooting for he has a helping hand for everybody.

Though unassuming and soft-spoken, he makes a difference to Wisitech across the board. You will know that as soon as you enter our office – “Hey, Sudipta” is the one name most heard here!
