7 SEO Predictions and #BigIdeas2016
January 5, 2016
What are the #BigIdeas2016 for Internet Marketing? Well, there is no dearth of ideas really. Question is which of these #BigIdeas2016 are here to stay and reap results and which are just bubbles that will burst after a while.
If we look back at 2015, one of the biggest trends of the year was mobile traffic overtaking the desktop traffic. Not surprisingly, this has given a powerful overhaul to search engine optimization practices.
#BigIdeas2016 for SEO is going to be leaning heavily in favour of mobile traffic, which in all likelihood will increase further. In 2016, the aim will remain to fetch more out of conversions.
Let’s have a look at some of the #BigIdeas2016 projections:
1. Pay attention to mobile traffic- It is leading the way
Mobile users have grown in numbers dramatically and so has the mobile-driven traffic. The share of mobiles and tablets is growing by leaps and bounds in terms of driving traffic to your website.
In 2015, Google launched Mobilegeddon update to penalize websites which were not mobile friendly. Mobile traffic will continue to grow in 2016 and may eventually surpass desktop and laptop searches. It will become all the more important for businesses to develop responsive, mobile friendly websites, which many have already complied with, and also go for customized apps. The app development strategy would need to keep in close view the mobile marketing strategy, mobile design and mobile search advertising.
2. Content on social media sites will be indexed
Information overload is plaguing the social media. At times the sheer magnitude of content being shared is overwhelming. Yet at the same time, content you share on your social media is now becoming part of search results – be it tweets on Twitter or Facebook posts or pins on Pinterest. Tweets appear in mobile search results as well.
With Google and search engines giving importance of posts on social media, you need to work out an engaging and informative content strategy to attract inbound traffic to your site.
3. Pay attention to local searches
Even if the reach of your business is far and wide and you run business at international level, if your business has no local presence, you are committing a huge blunder. As per the seoClarity
rank graph, the local search results come at number one 93 percent of the time. The introduction of the local three-pack lowered the number of business listings appearing in search results from 7 to 3.
In future, when a user will search for a certain business, the results will show more specific searches consisting of the neighborhood or street corner. The Big Idea for 2016 is to NOT ignore the local search optimization. As it will be the local searches that will offer more accurate results.
4. Link building
Link building strategies such as posting links on low quality websites are no longer going to help. On the contrary, they might cost you Google penalty. In 2016, your focus should be on getting organic backlinks. Here are useful ways to fetch natural, high quality backlinks:
• Actively participate in forums and social networking platforms
• Build community and join groups in social media sites
• Offer relevant answers on QA sites
5. Focus on app store optimization
With millions of mobile apps available in the app stores, making your mobile app stood out and be discovered is quite a challenge. App store optimization or ASO is the most effective mobile app marketing technique for optimizing mobile apps to rank higher in app store’s search results. Understanding your target audience, and finding the right keywords that your potential customers are searching for is highly crucial. Effectively done ASO will increase visibility of your mobile app which in turn will drive more traffic to your app page.
