Go Mobile Or Drop Off Search Rankings’: Google’s Mobile Friendly Algorithm

If the Panda, Penguin and Hummingbird updates were warning bells to pull up your SEO bootstraps, Google’s new mobile-friendly algorithm Mobilegeddon is rewriting search results like never before! “Mobilegeddon”, which made a grand entry into the World Wide Web on 21st April, 2015 ruthlessly demotes non-mobile-friendly websites in the search engine results. In other words, if your website is not compatible on mobile devices, you can either go mobile or ship out of rankings.
Don’t mistake Mobilegeddon as your enemy. Rather Google’s new algorithm is a mobile friendly update that aims to significantly change mobile search results of websites to enhance user experience. Mobilegeddon preference to mobile friendly responsive websites over non-responsive websites is a clear indication that businesses can no longer ignore the increasing number of users browsing, shopping, taking purchase decisions, paying bills and making transactions on their mobile devices.
If your website doesn’t use Flash, or has text that is readable without zooming and possesses all other mobile-friendly elements, your website is safe from falling prey to Google’s Mobilegeddon.
If your site takes an eternity to open on mobile phones; Google’s Mobilegeddon may be the end of high search rankings for you. Users don’t have the patience to wait for a website to load on their mobile screens.
Moreover mobile friendliness of the website is determined at the page level and not by the entire site. As Google Webmaster Trends Analyst Gary Illyes stated, “When determining if a page is mobile friendly, Google bases this on a page by page case. So passing some pages, or even most pages, as mobile friendly will not mean your entire site passes the check. All pages must be mobile friendly.”
Chances are that you may not have seen or felt the impact yet. But as Google stated it might take a little while for the new update to take full effect. That said, businesses are recommended to take action fast to retain their online customers and rankings. It is especially important to convert website to responsive sites for those businesses:
